NBC to review performance amidst notable achievements and future goals

The National Broadcasting Corporation [NBC] of Papua New Guinea kicked off a two-day workshop with its board, management, provincial station managers, and partners to evaluate the organization’s performance and set the course for 2025.
The workshop also focused on reviewing NBC's Corporate Plan for 2022-2026.
NBC Board Chairman Ian Tarutia opened the session by acknowledging all participants.
In his remarks, he emphasized the workshop's importance for NBC, urging reflection on its journey from past to present, and outlining the path ahead for the future.
"We must assess where we've been, where we are, and where we want to go," said Tarutia.
"Although NBC has a rolling five-year plan, we face the same resource and funding challenges as other state organizations.
"But these challenges should not be seen as obstacles. Instead, they offer us an opportunity to think smarter, change our mindset, and approach things differently."
Tarutia called on NBC’s leadership to collaborate closely to make the organization’s vision a reality.
Minister for ICT, Timothy Masiu, also addressed the workshop, highlighting NBC’s progress despite facing challenges.
He pointed to significant milestones, including NBC’s migration from analog to digital broadcasting, renovations to provincial stations since 2019, and the re-introduction of Medium Wave Radio transmission, which has greatly improved radio signal coverage across the country.
"The transition to digital broadcasting and the improvements in radio coverage are just a few examples of how we’ve moved forward," Masiu said.
"We’ve also made progress on new staff housing at the NBC headquarters. Material for 13 two-bedroom staff houses is scheduled to arrive by February."
Masiu also updated the participants on several other achievements, such as the completion of an audit of NBC’s books, the launch of NBC Online, the ongoing review of the NBC Act, and staff restructuring planned for the 2025-2026 National Budget cycle.
Additional improvements include the acquisition of a new OB Van for both TV and radio operations, the continuation of staff exchanges abroad, and the signing of 11 Memorandums of Understanding [MoUs[ with various respected organizations.
With these milestones and ongoing projects, NBC is positioning itself for continued growth and transformation, aiming to provide high-quality broadcasting services across Papua New Guinea.
