The government will soon know the full details of what transpired on January 10th, including issues affecting key government agencies involved and recommendations for the way forward.

This follows the near completion of the Commission of Inquiry into the Royal PNG Constabulary, with its final report now in the presentation stage.

Inquiry Secretary Mathew Yuangu confirmed to NBC News, the final proof-reading session held on Thursday last week is expected to be printed in the coming weeks for presentation.

The inquiry was directed by Prime Minister James Marape, on April 18th, 2024, to identify the failures of the Constabulary, relating to the January 10th civil unrest.

Initially, the six months C-O-I Terms of Reference from July 2024 to January 2025 included, the structure of R-P-N-G-C, Governance, Administration and the Civil Unrest.

However, an additional three-months was granted from February to April 2025 to continue the inquiry into specific areas within the Constabulary.

The nine months’ scrutiny saw state agencies, government departments including, Finance Department, Treasury, Personnel Management and citizens testifying of what transpired that day.

From the evidence presented, it's expected to also highlight issues of governance, accountability and recommendations for improvement.

After the reports is presented, it will be up to the government to act on it.
