The Governor of West New Britain has condemned in the strongest possible terms, the brutal and barbaric actions by the so-called men in Magarima, Hela Province, who tortured and killed a woman under the false pretext of sorcery.

In a statement, Governor Sasindran Muthuvel says the inhuman act of exposing her private parts to fire and the circulation of this horrifying video, is deeply disturbing and must outrage every decent human being in Papua New Guinea.

He says a society that does not recognize and protect the role of a mother and of our women, is certainly heading towards destruction.

The West New Britain Governor is now calling on Police Commissioner David Manning to immediately engage the Special Forces, including Kumul 23, to hunt down these criminals and bring them to justice without fear or favour.

"I urge every leader, community elder, church, and educated citizen to stand up and speak the truth, sorcery is a false notion, it has no place in a God-fearing nation.

"This innocent woman was accused of causing her husband’s death through so-called sorcery and faced this horrifying fate at the hands of ignorant men", Muthuvel said.
