Law Society condemns recent sorcery related killing

The Papua New Guinea Law Society [PNGLS] has condemned a recent horrific sorcery related killing and torture in Hela Province.
President of the society Hubert Namani says the lawyer's society was deeply disturbed and horrified by the recent video circulating on social media, showing a woman in Hela Province being tied, tortured, and executed at point-blank range, allegedly on accusations of sorcery.
The Law Society is demanding immediate action, including a full-scale criminal investigation into the recent killing, the arrest and prosecution of all perpetrators, plus the Protection and medical care for survivors.
President Namani says there is no place in our society for mob justice, gender-based violence, or sorcery-related killings.
He says these crimes are acts of cold-blooded murder that strike at the heart of humanity and the rule of law.
Namani also condemned the deafening silence from elected leaders, including the Prime Minister, the Minister for Internal Security, the Governor for Hela Province, and Members of Parliament.
He said this was unacceptable and such acts must not be ignored, normalized, or allowed to continue under a cloud of indifference.
