PNG citizens safely home from Israel

It has been one week since the return of Papua New Guinean citizens from Israel, following the outbreak of conflict in the region. The repatriation took place last Sunday and Monday as a result of the war between Israel and Iran.
In a statement released on Friday, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that diplomatic staff and pilgrims returned to Port Moresby on Sunday, June 29, and Monday, June 30. Among them were PNG’s Ambassador to Israel, Henry Mokono, his family, and other embassy personnel.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Elias Wohengu thanked Papua New Guineans for their prayers and support
"Our nation stood united in prayer, not only for the safe return of out diplomats and citizens, but also for the people of Israel. We thank everyone who upheld our mission and people in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time" Wohengu said.
It was not revealed exactly how many Papua New Guinean citizens returned to the country.
The statement further noted that the PNG Embassy will remain temporarily closed. The Department of Foreign Affairs will continue to closely monitor the situation while maintaining communication with international partners and stakeholders on the ground in Israel.
