The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary has released a statement addressing alarming reports featured in the one of the daily papers regarding alleged sadistic behavior by a criminal group in Central Province.
The report detail claims of dehumanizing crimes attributed to a segment of the Goilala community, accompanied by video footage that has circulated widely on social media.
In a statement by Police Commissioner David Manning, acknowledged the content of the media reports and the accompanying video, believing that it portrayed isolated incidents of violence within a troubled community.
“This behavior is disgraceful and is not indicative of the law abiding Christian communities across our nation,” Manning highlighted, declaring their commitment to upholding peace and order.
The commissioner has assured the public that police are investigating the matter to hold those accountable for the killings.
Manning said the police are dedicated to reinforce the law both in city and rural parts of the country.
“Those involved in the video will be brought to answer for their disgraceful behavior,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police for the NCD and Central Command Ben Turi has been tasked with municipal authorities and local communities to ensure an in-depth investigation is carried out.
The police called on media outlets to be responsible in reporting such matter, urging them to check their claims before publishing to prevent further damage to the country image and unnecessary problems among communities.
“We invite professional media to ride alongside our officers as they work to serve communities and uphold the laws of our country,” commissioner Manning said.
Manning said RPNGC remains committed and will update the public as investigation on this matter continues.
