LLG Election underway in West Sepik Province

The Local Level Government [LLG] elections are now officially underway in West Sepik Province, following the issuing of writs yesterday afternoon.
Provincial Election Manager Salote Kai confirmed that nominations began at 4 PM on Thursday.
Despite facing logistical challenges in delivering materials to remote areas, she says preparations are on track to complete nominations by May 1, 2025.
As of Friday, seven LLGs have already started receiving nominations, while another 15 are expected to start on Monday, April 28, as their election materials are being dispatched today.
In Telefomin District, local MP Solan Mirisim is assisting by providing air transport for the delivery of materials. For Nuku District, election materials are being transported by road from Wewak through Maprik to Nuku.
The Election Manager also confirmed that funding has been received from the Electoral Commission to support the nomination process, with more financial support expected soon for the polling phase. Additional backing has come from both the Provincial and District governments.
Meanwhile, the Aitape-Lumi by-election also kicked off on Thursday with the issuing of writs. Kai noted that the by-election is progressing ahead of the LLG elections, with nominations already underway as of today.
