Remembrance Day observed in Northern province

In Northern Province, relatives and community members gathered at Buna beach front for a small but significant dawn service to mark the 84th anniversary of the 1942 World War two battle.

Ex-servicemen, school children, and Seventh Day Adventist youth led the service at the site where the bloody Buna battle was fought.

An Anglican Priest offered special prayers for those who served in 1942, their families, and the generations since.

Addressing the people of Buna and surrounding coastal villages, prominent public servant, Steven Awoda said “we must always remember those who fought for our freedom and independence.” He urged people to observe Remembrance Day with its true meaning.

The service concluded with wreath laying at the memorial on Buna Beach.
