PM in Kaintiba

Prime Minister James Marape arrived in remote Kaintiba Station this morning after 24 hours on the road as part of his Connect PNG maiden drive-through.

The Prime Minister received a warm traditional welcome from local leaders and communities gathered at the station.

While addressing the people at the station, Marape said the national road project will bring essential services closer to rural Papua New Guineans.

He told the people that better roads mean faster access to health, education and business services.

He described the walk-by-talk trip as a symbol of his Government’s commitment to Connect PNG as a life-changing national project.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged contractors and landowners for their support in delivering the project.

He will officially unveil a Connect PNG commemorative plaque marking infrastructure works in the isolated Gulf region before continuing his trip to Lae.

Several senior ministers including Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso and Finance Minister Thomas Opa are traveling with him.

Yesterday at Epo Junction, the PM and Mr. Opa unveiled a Connect PNG billboard, with the Finance Minister saying the highway will reduce transport costs and open new market opportunities for Gulf.

The delegation is expected to depart for Morobe today as the drive-through continues toward Lae, Goroka and Mt. Hagen.

Marape says the maiden road trip symbolizes the connection of the country’s three major cities from Port Moresby to Lae and to Mt. Hagen.
