Ok Tedi Mining Limited [Ok Tedi] has committed K30 million towards the construction of the Sisimakam–P’nyang Road.

This critical infrastructure project will establish a vital connection to the P’nyang project, regarded as the next major gas development in Papua New Guinea.

The 32 kilometre Sisimakam–P’nyang road costs K150 million and is primarily funded under the Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme arrangement between ExxonMobil PNG and the PNG Government.

It will be delivered in three phases starting with a 11km stretch of preliminary work, then followed by 23km extension forming the missing link to the P’nyang Gas Project site, with final stage of the sealing of full stretch from Sisimakam to the P’nyang Project site.

The P’nyang LNG project is one of Papua New Guinea’s most significant future energy developments, with approximately 4.6 trillion cubic feet [TCF] of proven gas reserves.

It is expected to become the country’s second major LNG development, complementing the existing PNG LNG project in Hela Province.

Ok Tedi’s contribution to the Sisimakam–P’nyang Road project underscores the company’s commitment to balancing resource extraction with responsible development and delivering tangible benefits to local communities.

OTML acting chief executive officer, Alan Bong questioned the value of extracting copper and gold if it does not positively impact people’s lives.

“Our focus is on ensuring that our operations contribute meaningfully to national development, empower local communities, and support the country’s future growth under the Take Back PNG agenda.” Bong said.

Ok Tedi continues to play a leading role in infrastructure development under Papua New Guinea’s Tax Credit Scheme, through which it has funded and delivered critical projects that improve connectivity, accessibility, and livelihoods in remote communities.

These projects collectively demonstrate Ok Tedi’s ongoing commitment to nation-building through strategic and impactful infrastructure delivery.
