MBPHA launches audit committee
The Milne Bay Health Authority has launched it’s Audit Committee, a big move for accountability and transparency in its operations.
It’s been welcomed by the Auditor General’s Office and the Department of Finance who bore witness this week.
STORY:
The Audit Committee for the Milne Bay Health Authority will be made up of membership from the Internal Audit and Compliance Division of the Department of Finance, the Auditor General’s Office and two local independent members.
At the launch, they were reminded, the committee does not take away management responsibilities from the Milne Bay Health Authority, it rather will overlook risk management, watch over governance systems and processes and provide an independent and objective advisory oversight support to the MBPHA.

The Milne Bay Health Authority were praised for raising their hands to install this important committee to hold them to account and to deliver the best for the people of Milne Bay.
It was revealed the status of Audit Committees from Government Departments to Statutory bodies and more remains lackluster.
Of a total 24 established audit committees for various Government Departments, 11 are defunct while 13 remain active.
For Provincial Government’s 19 estbalished audit committees, 7 are defunct while 12 are active.
And for Provincial Health Authorities, Milne Bay’s launch now brings to 6 active audit committees.
The Board and Management of the Milne Bay Health Authority has welcomed the committee and is looking forward to working alongside them for better healthcare for the people of Milne Bay.
