Local league in Lai Valley launches 2025 Season with aim to foster unity

The local competition kick-off was conducted by Mendi-Minihu MP Rahpael Tompi, signifying his strong support for the development of rugby in the district.
Guests who attended Saturday's event were treated to an electrifying exhibition match between two select sides, Kapol Naiks [Blue] representing Lai Valley and the Woala Nais [Black] from Nipa Rugby League.
In a tightly contested game, the Kapol Naiks edged out the Woala Nais with a nail-biting 14-12 victory at full-time.
Ahead of the official launch, extensive community engagement initiatives were carried out across key locations in Lai Valley.

He noted that LVRFL had officially registered with the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League [PNG RFL] just last month, further cementing its credibility within the national rugby framework.
Expressing his gratitude, Gia extended a heartfelt acknowledgment to the Mendi-Munihu District Development Authority, under the leadership of MP Raphael Tonpi, for its support in making this initiative a reality.
“Your vision and leadership are instrumental in our quest to bring about transformation through the vehicle of sport,” he sid.
