A new batch of police houses arrive in Hela

Ten containers carrying prefabricated police houses for the Wabia Police Station in the Komo Hulia District of Hela Province are on their way.
Of these, six containers are currently en route from Ambua Gap to Wabia for unloading, while the remaining four are still making their way along the Mendi-Nipa section of the Highlands Highway.
Hela Police Housing rollout program Coordinator, Amos Libe, told NBC News that once the houses are unloaded, four empty containers will be left at the Ambua Gap checkpoint for security personnel to use.
The arrival of these houses for Wabia follows a similar delivery of ten police houses for the Komo Police Station in Komo LLG, within the same district last month.
The initiative aims to enhance living conditions for police officers, enabling them to perform their duties effectively. According to Mr. Libe, a total of 100 police houses are planned for construction this year.
The first 30 have already been completed at Enopi and Pai Police Barracks in Tari Town, with district-level construction beginning in Komo and now Wabia.
The Hela Provincial Government remains committed to improving police infrastructure, with a goal of building 500 police houses by 2027.
