The Manus Provincial Health Authority [PHA] is embarking on a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare standards and accessibility for its residents.

This project is made possible through a collaborative partnership involving the National Department of Health, the Manus Provincial Government, and the Manus Provincial Health Authority [PHA].

Facility and Projects Manager Peter Sakael revealed the exciting progress being made.

Mr. Sakael said one of the standout achievements is the modernization of the hospital’s Dental Clinic, which promises to deliver improved oral health services to the community.

He said with the addition of specialized services for dental prosthetics, including dentures, residents will no longer need to travel outside the province for essential care.

“Previously, many residents had to travel outside the province to access these services, but now they will have the convenience of receiving care right in the province,” Sakael said.

He said another significant development is the complete renovation of the hospital’s Tuberculosis [TB] ward.

Sakael said the old facility has been replaced with a modern seven-room structure, each equipped with its own bathroom and toilet.

"This transformation is vital for providing effective treatment and care for patients battling this serious health issue.

"This upgrade is crucial for effective treatment and care for patients suffering from this public health concern,” he said.

In addition to these clinical improvements, the hospital is set to benefit from two newly constructed incinerators funded by the United Nations Office for Project Services [UNOPS] and the United Nations Children’s Fund [UNICEF].

He said these incinerators are not just a facility upgrade hence they represent a commitment to better waste management practices that enhance hygiene and reduce environmental impact.

“We are privileged to have these two incinerators, one already completed and the other still under construction,"Sakael said.
