Local coffee farm in Jiwaka gets assistance from CIC and OK Corporation

A coffee farm at Kimil in Banz LLG of Jiwaka Province has received coffee rehabilitation materials from the OK Corporation Limited to rehabilitate and improve coffee quality and increase volumes.

The Pau Farm in the Western end of Banz is the recipient of 5 Knapsack Sprayer Jacto and three 20 litres Glyphosate Roundup as an initial support under the coffee extension work. 

This support were given as part of an partnership agreement signed between the OK Corporation and Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC) under the National Government Public Private Partnership Programme as collateral partners to boost coffee production and increase export volumes.

Ok Corporation Kimel Coffee corporate accountant Michael Tee, who presented these coffee rehabilitation equipment’s, urged the youths to concentrate on enhancing coffee production as a national target.

Mr Tee said this extension support will help farmers to supply their coffee to the factory as out-growers’ suppliers with an objective of sustaining the coffee industry.   

“The country needs more exports to build foreign currency to strengthen our economic, there is a demand to increase coffee exports volume,” he said.

“Now that the OK Corporation is entering into partnership with the Coffee Industry Corporation, we must extend our partnership in rehabilitating and extending our coffees to increase quality and volumes.

“The CIC motto is lukautim kopi na kopi bai is very true because in coffee there is money for school fee, medical bills, to build decent home, business and more.”  

The recipient, Pau Coffee Farmers, thanked the OK corporation and CIC for this assistance with the coffee extension and rehabilitation equipment’s through their partnership programme.  

Pau Farm also gave assurance that they will produce results with these equipments and support the OK Corporation in coffee supply.

This assistance is part of the agreement signed last December to forge productive partnerships with the coffee value chain participants.

To provide support services to out-growers in term of building capacity for coffee production through issuance of farm tools and equipment’s, extension and training.

Meanwhile, this assistance to help out-growers is part of the MOU signed between the OK corporation and CIC for over a twelve months’ period under the National Government Private Public Partnership.
