PM Marape retains leadership after VoNC

The day many anticipated arrived with both sides of the house filled with members, ahead of starting time of 10-am.
The proceedings started with a prayer by Ijivitari MP David Arore before going to the main agenda of the day, the vote of no confidence.
Sir Puka Temu, mover of the motion made his speech, seconded by Wabag MP Dr Lino Tom who also spoke on the need for a change in leadership.
Concerns were raised through numerous points of orders by Madang MP Bryan Kramer, Hiri Koiari MP Keith Iduhu, Deputy Opposition Leader James Nomane on the need for debate first before the vote.
Kramer told Speaker Pomat that he needed to entertain the debate or be in contempt of court, which ordered this recall.
Speaker Job Pomat entertained the various points of orders and upon advice from clerks proceeded with the vote.
He reminded members that while the court ordered for a recall of Parliament, Parliament was also guided by its own standing orders, and he referred to these as a guide.
When votes were counted, James Marape remained as Prime Minister.
Parliament was adjourned to the 27th of May, 2pm.
