The Waigani Committal Court has issued a Warrant of Arrest for three suspects who were allegedly involved in the murder and rape of Margaret Gamaru Gabriel, along the Baruni Settlement, in Port Moresby earlier this year, after escaping from police custody.

Police Prosecutor Sandra Holland confirmed with NBC News that a total of six suspects were initially apprehended in relation to the case, but only three remained in the cells while the other three were nowhere to be found, within the Boroko Holding Cell.

Sandra said they have been adjourning the case to comply with the warrant of arrest ordered by court, but, she is disappointed that the other three suspects, have escaped while being held in the police cells.

The police prosecutor after enquiring about the missing suspects was told that an officer from the Juvenile Court took the three suspects with her to the Juvenile Court, and went missing under her watch.

Ms. Holland said the Police Prosecutor should have been consulted first, prior to making arrangements in moving the three suspects to the Juvenile Court, based on whatever age the suspects provided.

Meanwhile, the three other suspects have appeared before the court and they are currently being kept at the Bomana Prison, waiting for their next court hearing.
