Today marks a significant milestone for the Koroba Secondary School Student Mess as it transitions from reliance on kerosene and firewood to a modern gas system.

This change was officially finalized with the installation, testing, and commissioning of the gas systems.

Principal Stanley Langap announced that the project started on Sunday, April 6, when materials and the installation team were transported from Hagen to the school. He said that work continued on Monday, resulting in the successful testing and commissioning today.

“This is a moment of pride for our school community as we celebrate the realization of this initiative, which has been in the works for nearly fifty years,” said Principal Langap.

“Our kitchen has relied on kerosene stoves and firewood since the school’s foundation, so this transition represents substantial advancement.”

He further elaborated that the installation includes eight 45kg gas cylinders, with four in active use and the remaining four kept as backup.

Mr Langap also shared that the first cooking using the new gas system is scheduled for this weekend when students return from their holiday.

This development signifies not just an upgrade in facilities but also an important step towards improving the quality of meals for students at Koroba Secondary School.
