Young boy electrocuted in Madang

A nine-year-old boy was electrocuted to death in Madang Province early this week after accidently stepping on a fallen powerline.

The incident occured at his family residence in Mis village, outside Madang town after attending school.

Deceased identified as Pitiyak Sonn, was rushed to Madang Provincial Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

PNG Power was immediately notified about the incident by the boy’s family where business manager, Mozo Livason and his linesmen responded.

The linesmen discovered a fallen service line in a small backyard garden, which the victim stepped on. Few meters away from where he was electrocuted, a dog was also found dead lying on the same power line.

According to initial findings by PNG Power and Police investigators on Monday afternoon, the young boy suffered severe burns to his back.

Mr Livason and his officers as well as CID team returned to Mis Village yesterday and continued their investigations.

He refused to comment on the incident yesterday but clarified that a report of the investigation will be sent to their head office in Port Moresby before any information can be released.

Late Sonn was an elementary student at the Sagalau Demonstration School.
