Bomb scare in Madang town

A live bomb was discovered this morning at the entrance of an Asian store in Madang Town, causing widespread panic amongst the general public, the store owners and their workers.
According to security personnel, the bomb was placed inside a pile of tyres at the store’s main entrance last night.
No one has any idea of who the perpetrator is, however; unconfirmed reports from sources on the ground revealed it could have been placed there by criminal elements who wanted to rob the store last night when there was a power outage in town.
Security guards at the store said they disturbed what could have led to a major tragedy overnight in this part of Madang Town, as there is a service station situated next to the store.
The perpetrators had started a fire inside the pile of tyres in the hope of exploding the artillery, but escaped into the dark, leaving behind the explosive when security guards arrived at the scene.
Local police officers and PNGDF soldiers who are in Madang Province on detachment were immediately notified about the discovery, and they quickly responded by cordoning the area.

Second Lieutenant Doa Sent of the Madang Detachment Command says, the soldiers managed to remove the explosive from the pile of tyres and have successfully disposed of it in the ocean some three to four kilometers outside of Madang Town.
He also warns the general public against using old war relics that they may come across as they are very dangerous and could explode on them if they are still active.
