Commissioner urges calm following attempted murder of solider – one man arrested as investigations continue

The Commissioner of Police, David Manning, has called for calm following the arrest of an adult male in connection with the attempted murder of a PNGDF member at Vadavada, National Capital District.
"I have directed NCD & Central command to apply all necessary resources to investigate this brutal incident and bring to justice those responsible without delay," Commissioner Manning stated.
"The PNGDF member sustained serious injuries during a violent attack in the early hours of Sunday 30 March 2025. He remains in critical condition.
"The swift response of Police has seen the arrest of one adult male within hours of this incident. Further arrests are expected to follow.
"I urge members of the disciplined forces to exercise restraint, and allow investigators to do their duty and bring those responsible to justice.
Commissioner Manning reaffirmed the importance of all citizens respecting the rule of law.
"Our communities have seen enough violence. Police will bring those responsible for this offence to justice and they will be held to account for their actions.
"I expect each and every person to leave the enforcement of justice to police, and to support the rule of law in our communities.
"Police are working closely with PNGDF in ensuring that calm is maintained and investigators have access to all witnesses needed to bring this investigation to a resolution at the earliest opportunity.
Commissioner Manning confirmed investigators are meeting with PNGDF leadership as investigations continue to deliver the swift arrest of those responsible.
