Waghi Valley Secondary School in North Waghi, Jiwaka was issued clearance to resume teaching after classes were suspended due to threats by locals.

The clearance was given by Principle Advisor for Jiwaka Provincial Education Division, Andrew Kuk, to begin normal classes early this week.

The unexpected suspension of classes started last week after a drunkard intimidated a female teacher in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Following the incident, the matter was discussed during staff briefing, where the school staff and board sought clarification from authorities to put halt to classes.

School Principal Daniel Hauts said the school in Banz LLG, had investigated and found out that the nature of the menace transpired from outside sources.

He said the communities did a civil arrest and the perpetrator was apprehended and handed over to Police in Banz.

“We suspended the classes last two days as an act of showing our concerns to communities not to interfere and disturb the school, especially teachers,” Hunts said.

“The school, parents, stakeholders, community leaders and provincial education board came to an understanding that such things must not happen again for the good of the school in the long run,”

He said urged authorities and parents to keep the school safe and away from disturbance by the surrounding communities.

Kuk, when responding to concerns committed the provincial education’s role in maintaining the safety and welfare of the teachers.
