Kutubu locals hope to see more banking services following visit by BSP

A team from the Bank of South Pacific in Mendi has made an historic visit to the Pimaga Government Station on the Lake Kutubu LLG of Southern Highlands Province.
The team made a two-day visit after five hours journey on the road. The first day was scheduled for school visits while the second day was used for a string of awareness drives on new products like the Wantok Mobile Wallet and Cash Agents.
There were also talks on loan and banking services in general. Local BSP Agent Matthew Wa'abia took the time to express concerns regarding opening of new accounts that needs a close consideration.
Meanwhile, a health worker Michael Puma who represented more than 300 public servants in the area acknowledged the visit and says that banking is an essential service that needs a lot of improvements.
Puma said such visit is the first of its kind and shows the bank's commitment to ensure its services are brought to the door steps of the people especially the unreached rural areas such as Kutubu.
The team is expected to pay second visit soon to attend to other queries that were raised and also address general enquiries.
The locals are hoping that a mini branch or ATM would be put in place to cut the hefty fees paid on local agents and transport to access the services in Mendi and Moro branches.
