NCDVA applauds PNG volleyball’s silver success at Pacific Mini Games

The National Capital District Volleyball Association [NCDVA] has commended the PNG Men’s National Volleyball Team for their exceptional performance at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games, where they clinched the silver medal after a thrilling campaign.
Team PNG’s strong run came to an end in the grand final against Wallis and Futuna, who handed them their only loss of the tournament at the Palau National Gymnasium.
NCDVA president Wally Irau praised the team, highlighting the significant contribution made by players from the association, which continues to serve as a major pathway for volleyball development in the country.
“We have a very strong and competitive association. There’s a lot of potential in NCDVA, and our players continue to dominate at the national level each year,” Irau told NBC News.

The NCDVA representatives in the national squad included Victor Pala, Ula Numa, Ila Wali, David John, brothers Leo and Edward Aisi Jr., and the Oki siblings, Ramontina and Gerald.
PNG Team featuring a blend of under-19 prospects and experienced players, remained undefeated throughout the group stages. Their campaign included a memorable 3-1 victory over Tahiti in the semifinals, a rematch of the 2023 Pacific Games gold medal match, which they had previously lost.
The team, coached by Ula Gima and captained by Rolly Forova, fell short in the gold medal match but earned praise for their consistency and team spirit throughout the tournament.
Irau said Amoa’s strong performance was a reflection of the steady progress of local volleyball competitions, especially in terms of organization and punctuality.
“I’m really happy with the progress of our competition. Our ability to run on time and stay organized. That discipline is translating into performance on the international stage,” he said.

With the Pacific Mini Games now concluded, NCDVA players will return to their clubs as the domestic season approaches its finals.
The association currently hosts six competitive clubs in Jugu, Kereibua, Vailima, Phoenix, Telikom, and Matala, competing across men’s and women’s senior and junior divisions.
“This year, we’ve continued to run our competition at a high standard to motivate players, give them quality experience, and prepare them for the next level,” Irau added.
As the NCDVA season enters its final rounds, eyes will remain on its top performers, many of whom have now proven themselves at the regional stage.
