Kaiwi apologises in parliament over the actions of his grandson, resulting in the death of Jenelyn Kennedy

A Member of Parliament has apologised on behalf of his family, for a crime committed against a young woman, who died five years ago.
Jiwaka Provincial MP, Simon Kaiwi conveyed his family's apologies, when speaking in support of a report by the Permanent Parliamentary Committee, on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Parliament today.
Mr. Kaiwi apologised to the families of the late Jenelyn Kennedy, who was violently beaten and tortured to death, by her partner, Bhospi Kaiwi, in July 2020.
He said that though he has taken out a full page newspaper apology in 2020, he feels that he needs to apologise again to the Late Jenelyn's family, and all the women and girls in PNG, for what his grandson did back then.
Mr. Kaiwi said that though his grandson is currently in jail, he and his family are saddened that the Late Jenelyn will no longer be with them.
He also added that he is saddened because his two grandchildren, a boy and a girl, will grow up without their mother, because the son was only three years old, and his sister was only a year old.
Bhosip Kaiwi was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Waigani National and Supreme Court, on the 08th of December 2023.
