Nomane questions RPNGC’s effectiveness

Deputy Opposition Leader, James Nomane, has asked for more responsibility from the police, saying that despite more money being given to them, things are not getting better.
He pointed out that important issues like police behavior, housing, and vehicles have not improved.
"Now in 2025, we have announced the highest budget, K703 million. This is another increase, bringing the total to K1.8 billion. From 2023 to 2024, it was K1.2 billion. But we still haven't seen better police behavior, better housing, or more equipment for the police," Nomane said.
"We also haven't fixed the vehicle problem. We are still renting cars for the police all over the country. We are not sure we will meet the target of 7,000 police officers by 2026," he added.
Police Minister Peter Tsiamalili Jr agreed that the country faces problems but said the government is working on fixing them.
"We created the Bomana Centre of Excellence to train more police officers, and we have already graduated over 500 new police officers. We are also working with provincial governments to increase the number of police reserves," Tsiamalili said.
"Law and order is a team effort. It takes everyone working together. Let’s not make law and order a political issue. Regarding vehicles, we’ve bought new ones, and they are on the way. But for now, we still need to rent some," Tsiamalili added.
The Minister also talked about the difficulties of organizing vehicles for the police in different areas.
