New kidney machine for Southern highlands as doctors set to conduct kidney dialysis

The people of Southern Highlands will now have access to lifesaving treatment, the Kidney Dialysis in their province for the first time.

This will save cost and time for patients of Southern Highlands who normally travel to other provinces or overseas for treatment.

It was made known during an awareness conducted by Mendi hospital staff and students of Mendi Nursing School in the town this week.

The awareness is in preparation for the first kidney dialysis treatment that will be made available in Mendi Hospital and also on the importance of Kidney's health.

Kidney Dialysis Specialist, Doctor, Dr Erick Mange who led the awareness said the organ plays an important role in human life, hence, people must know how to look after their kidney.

Dr. Mange advised people to cut down on sugary food and drink a lot of water.

The awareness team made an open appeal to the people to go for free medical check in Mendi town starting 9am today (Wednesday), and those having problems with kidney will be recommended for treatment.

Mendi hospital will conduct practical exercises for public to see this Friday.
