The Miss Bird of Paradise [MBoP] Pageant has pledged K5,000 in support of the Lujan Safe Home for Girls, a sanctuary in Vanimo that provides care and shelter for girls from broken homes, orphanages, and vulnerable backgrounds.

The visit took place yesterday afternoon, with reigning Miss Bird of Paradise 2024–2025, May Hasola, touring the facility and meeting with the residents. During her visit, she announced the financial support and spent time encouraging the girls.

The Lujan Home for Girls was established on 10 August 2009 in the Diocese of Vanimo by the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará. The home offers a peaceful environment and holistic education to girls affected by poverty, family breakdowns, and tribal violence.

A total of 24 young girls, including a two-year-old, welcomed Ms. Hasola into their home. Their faces lit up with excitement as they listened to her story and asked questions about her achievements and experiences as a young woman.

In her address, Miss Hasola encouraged the girls to focus on their education and never lose sight of their dreams.

"Your education is your strength, guide it with your life. Dream big, work hard, and you will reach your goals. Don’t let your current situation hold you back. Always love one another, help, and support each other,” she said.

Following an engaging session filled with laughter, questions, and encouragement, she officially announced the K5,000 pledge from the Miss Bird of Paradise Pageant.

Sister Rosas, the Sister-in-Charge at Lujan Safe Home, expressed her gratitude for the support.

"We are truly grateful for this generous donation. It will go a long way in supporting the girls’ needs. Our mission at Lujan is to ensure every girl completes her education and has a brighter future," she said.

All 24 girls currently reside at the home and attend school, ranging from elementary to high school levels.
