Parliament honors Sir Julius Chan with Condolence Messages

The National Parliament sitting for March convened this afternoon, which was dominated by condolence messages from both sides of the House in remembrance of the late Sir Julius Chan's service to the people and the nation.

Prime Minister James Marape, while giving his condolences, says Sir Julius's life has been a strong influence in the country's financial sector and overall development.

The Prime Minister noted that the passing of the late Sir Julius also marks the loss of others who contributed to the country's development, such as Sir John Luke Crittin and Eremas Tobaining Sr.

He also acknowledged the immediate family of the late Sir Julius.

Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa joined Prime Minister James Marape in expressing his condolences, says the late Sir Julius was with the opposition until his passing.

He added that the late Sir Julius was respected by all citizens, as well as by the international community.

Mr. Tomuriesa remarked that Sir Julius's contributions are incomparable and almost equal to those of Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.

He emphasized that the history and work of these senior statesmen must be documented well, along with that of other former leaders who worked alongside them.

The Opposition Leader says more work still needs to be done and urged members of Parliament to learn from former leaders and strive for better governance.
