A man who is in his 20s was stabbed and later died at the hospital in Kwikila while nursing his wounds.

The commander of National Capital District and Central Provinces Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi had confirmed that the deceased identified as Vagaba Samson from Love Village of Rigo District, Central province was stabbed in front of the canteen while harassing the owners and the others.

He said according to police report from Central province, the deceased was at the canteen that belonged to a man from Tari, Hela, harassing them when they retaliated and stabbed him.

"Those who were at the canteen, including the Tari's, are now detained in the cell to be questioned by the police for the alleged offence," Turi said.

"The incident happened at 7pm yesterday after the deceased got drunk. We are yet to get a clear brief of who was actually involved in stabbing him. Commander Turi said that the police investigation had commenced.

Turi said the deceased is a habitual offender at Kwikila station, and one of the offences he committed was assaulting a police officer this year.

He said investigations on the killing have started as police get necessary information to take the next course of action.

"Taking other people's lives is against the law, and those involved will be charged accordingly," Turi said.

"I also want to call on the relatives of the deceased to work closely with the police officers and not take the law into their own hands. The suspects are now in police custody.

"If you are unhappy with what happened, you can seek legal advice to address that. Other police had commenced their investigation."

Commander Turi further added that police units are monitoring the situation at Kwikila station.

He urged the locals from retaliating as the matter is now handled by police.

Commander Turi thanked police officers from both NCD and Central Provinces for their quick response, which calmed the situation.
