The people of West Sepik Province have been urged to be united, and prepare for the country's golden jubilee celebrations, in 2025.

West Sepik Governor, Tony Wouwou, made this call when speaking at the 49th Independence Anniversary celebrations in Vanimo Town this morning.

Governor Wouwou told his people to reflect on how far they have come over the last 49 years, and use these experiences, to chart the way forward, for the next 50 years.

He also used the occasion to pay his respects to the Late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare, and the other leaders of West Sepik, in the likes of Late Paul Langro, Yakop Talis, Christopher Sambre, John Tekwie, Andreas Komboni, Micah Wes, Egbert Yalu and others, for bringing West Sepik and PNG this far.
