The West New Britain Provincial Executive Council has approved a two-month special police operation in the province.

The special operation aims to restore order in hotspot areas mainly in Kimbe Town and parts of the province.

PEC deliberated on the matter and approved the special police operation which commenced on Monday this week.
Acting Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector Fred Kaiwa explained that under the special operations order, restrictions have been placed on the movement of people in the hotspot areas, especially after 10 o’clock at night.

He clarified that this is not a curfew but police will be out to control the movements of people.

Chief Inspector Kaiwa says the special operation is also aimed at going back to the basics of policing which means that police come down hard on people drinking in public, disorderly conduct and especially loitering in public places.

He clarified that the operation also covers other parts of the province.

The special police operation ends on 31st of October.
