PM Marape receive petitions present by UPNG Student body

The student body of The University of Papua New Guinea presented the petition to the Prime Minister James Marape and the government at the University's Forum Square on Friday.

The petitions presented by the representatives of four regions; Highlands, Momase, NGI, and Southern Region focus on areas include high inflation, Law and Order issues, Foreign Exchange issue and Tuition Fee delays.

The Ministers present to receive the petition include Minister for Police and Regional Member for Bougainville Peter Tsiamalili Jr, Minister for Higher Education Research Science and Technology Kinoka Feo, Minister for Coffee, William Bando.

The Secretary for DHERST Fr. Jan Czuba was also presented to receive petition.

The Prime Minister in his response commended the students for showing the majority in figuring out critical issues affecting the nation and also suggesting possible solutions government can undertake to address these issues.

Mapare said he will take the petition to the cabinet and present it to the cabinet for further deliberation and discussion.

"We will discuss your petition in the cabinet and will come back to you on the 9th of September and give full answers.

"Will explain in brief as per the petition and answer accordingly what the government has done five years back,"Marape said.

Meanwhile Marape reiterates that what's affecting the nation is felt by everyone and the government is also considerate on the issues and undertaking measures to address.

Marape describe students for the braveness and highly intelligent to provide constructive petitions to the government and he assured that government will answer all petitions on the 9th of September 2024.
