The Secretary for the Department of Personnel Management [DPM] and Chairperson of the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance [SILAG] Board, Taies Sansan said they are in the process to amend Section 35 of the Public Service Management Act to make SILAG certificate compulsory for public servants.

Ms Sansan elaborated on this during the mid-year graduation ceremony at SILAG on Friday.

"SILAG certificate is very important for public service machinery, and we are in the process to make it compoursly. Once the parliament approves, it will be implemented," Sansan said.

This also coincides with the institution's focus to make SILAG a public service specialized university coming 2027.

During the graduation ceremony on Friday 129 graduands also were encouraged to serve the public service system with accountability and transparency.

Ms. Sansan urged the graduands to change their ways of doing things, their behavior and attitude first before they make a difference in the organization they serve.

"Transformation has to happen within yourself first, then its impact can be shown in the organization and eventually it will transform the nation.

"Set your goals now, what you want to become and contribute to the nation in the next 10 to 20 years,"Ms Sansan added.

Meanwhile the Chief Executive Officer of DILAG, Michael Barobe has reiterated that the certificate they receive is not just any other paper.

He said the certificate comes with responsibility and that is to serve the country with pride and meaningfully contribute to its development.
