Schools in Northern host inaugural cultural show

The inaugural cultural show for high and secondary schools in northern has been hosted at Afore high school on Thursday aims promote the rich culture of northern province in schools.

The momentous event at Afore High School featured various cultural groups and seen people from the Afore LLG gathered to witness the inaugural event.

Speaking during the culture show event Director General for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization [UNESCO] in Papua New Guinea [PNG], Joshep Auli stressed on the importance of culture in PNG society.

"We talk culture in our activity in UNESCO because we believe that from the ancient of this you would recall culture bring peace to the society and communities.

"Our four main functions are education, communication and information, culture and heritage, and science.

"Today, we celebrate one of our activities which is culture, our main function. So, culture is our identity, who we are and what we are. Our culture has made us what we are today. Our forefathers built this nation from our culture, nothing else," Mr. Auli said.

Mr. Auli added that UNESCO PNG continue to support such cultural events in schools throughout the country and in northern.

He said UNESCO PNG has an associated school program that networks schools within the country and world, and he aims to connect schools in northern through this program going forward.
