K4.5 million health facility open in Wewak

East Sepik Provincial Health Authority in partnership with the Catholic Health Services have opened a new K4.5 million health facility in Wewak East Sepik Province on Tuesday [today].

The facility officially opened at Wirui named after founding missionary Br Mathew Bouten is a Level 3 Urban Clinic.

This clinic will be serving hundreds of people from Wewak Urban and the surrounding communities.

East Sepik Provincial Health Authority Chairman Pastor Max Manimbi during the officiating ceremony acknowledges all stakeholders including Asian Development Bank for funding support, East Sepik Provincial Government, AusAid, GoPNG, National Department of Health and the Catholic Church.

"This is a high-quality standard health facility delivered and I'm really thankful to the development partners," Pastor Manimbi said.

Bishop for Wewak Bishop Joe Roszinski when addressing the event emphasized that the Catholic Church is committed to work in partnership with Government and other stakeholders to ensure education and health services reach out to the people.

He said with the new facility in place, more positions are now needed to cater for the demand for specialist health workers.

Meantime, East Sepik Governor Allan Bird who was there to officially open the facility thanked all stakeholders for their part in ensuring a successful outcome of the project.

"You may get specialist doctors because there are plenty of machines where doctors need to make more products and still don't borrow. But that's not us, we've got plenty of specialist doctors here," Bird Said.

The state-of-the-art facility is the second in the country and will be open for the general public commencing next Monday.
