Abau MP Sir Puka Temu is calling on Members of Parliament to consider the need to save the country and people of Papua New Guinea.

Temu said the economy is not doing well with the value of kina plunging on a daily basis.
He also expressed the need to ensure institutions of the Government are working.

The Abau MP said only leaders have the mandated role to save the country and come out of the challenges faced today.

“Then we will have great difficulty in putting our country back on the rail again. It's easy to destroy, very hard to rebuild.

“We are seeing the destruction of the country's economy, the destruction of the institutions of state, the non-compliance to the laws and regulations that govern the country, the strength of the institutions. It's weakened now.

"The institutions of state are key pillars in holding countries up and when they are weakened by politicians, then we really have no institutions that cushion any pressure, that is whether it's economic or social, legal or whatever, the state will fall,” Sir Puka said.
