Temporary access for Yalu bridge washout expected tomorrow

The China Railway International Group is speeding up repair work at Yalu bridge to open temporary access for travelling public.

Department of Works and Highways Acting Secretary Gibson Holemba visited the washout site today [Monday August 26th] and anticipate to restore normalcy once temporary access is fully restored possibility tomorrow [Tuesday 27th 2024] if weather permits.

Mr. Holemba visit and senior officials from Port Moresby works headquarters were onsite to assess the extent of damage and progressive repair works undertaken by the Morobe Provincial Works and Contractor.

Also, onsite this morning were China Railways Acting Executive Director Network Planning, Design and Standards Simeon Suagu, Engineer to Lae Nadzab 4 lane project John Kaio, Morobe Provincial Works Manager Samson Apai and Morobe works staff.

The inspection team have pointed out that the temporary Bridge access should be restored by tomorrow, if the weather permits.

It was established that 50 meters of Bridge approach from Lae side was eroded after the washout on Friday 23rd August 2024.
