Yalu bridge restoration work commences

The restoration work at washout Yalu Bridge in the Morobe Province commences this morning.
The Department of Works and Highways Acting Secretary Gibson Holemba appeals for public to behave as restoration works at washout Yalu Bridge commence.
"The China Railway International Group Ltd is working on the Nadzab approach and it’s subcontractor is working on the Lae approach embankment of the washout site at Yalu Bridge.
"We are expecting to restore full access this afternoon if the weather permits," Holemba said.
This damage was caused as a result of heavy downpour since 2am in the morning on Friday [Yesterday].
It's a important economic bridge that connects Lae to the Madang and the Highlands highway.
This unfortunate situation cuts off all travelling public including those travelling to or from Nadzab airport to Lae, the economic hub of the country is currently inaccessible by vehicles.
The Department of Works and Highways immediately responded yesterday after the devastative incident occurred.
Mr. Holemba also urge PMV operators, trucking companies and business houses that natural disaster is beyond their control and are doing everything that can to restore normalcy.
Meanwhile reports of other damaged bridge including pine tops bridge in Bulolo and various bridges reported to have been exposed to this ravaged heavy rains and rapid flooding in Lae, Morobe Province are being monitored and restoration works to be deployed soon.
