PIH leads 13th globeathon walk in the fight against cancer

Pacific International Hospital has once again led the 13th Annual Globeathon Walk in Port Moresby to raise awareness on cancers affecting women.

The walk commenced early yesterday morning from the PIH Medical Centre at Waigani Central, bringing together cancer survivors and their families, health workers, corporate groups, government agencies, PIH staff and members of the public.

PIH was honoured to welcome Lady Emeline Dadae, wife of the Governor-General, as Chief Guest for this year's event.

For 13 years, PIH has led the Globeathon campaign in PNG, using the walk to encourage conversations around prevention, early detection and treatment.

The campaign particularly raises awareness on below-the-belt cancers, including cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal and vulvar cancers, as well as breast cancer.

Women account for 70 percent of cancer patients seen at PIH, with breast cancer representing nearly one-third of female cases and many still present at advanced stages.

Dr Lemma urged women to prioritize regular screening, saying early diagnosis saves lives.

The event was supported by RPNGC, Nestle, CPL, Paradise Foods, Bougainville Copper Limited, Stop & Shop, RH Mart and PNGDF.
