East Sepik Provincial Health Authority [ESPHA] is among the top 10 performing Provincial Health Authorities in Papua New Guinea.

This is according to the 2025 Sector Performance Annual Review [SPAR] of the National Department of Health [NDoH].

East Sepik PHA was one of the least performing PHAs in the country ranking second last out of the 22 Provincial Health Authorities in 2022 to 2023.

However, due to improved reporting systems, it is ranked as the 9th among the 22 PHA's in the country in 2025.

In recent years, East Sepik PHA has made outstanding progress. This milestone achievement was revealed during the mid-term review workshop of East Sepik provincial health authority by health information manager Julius Wangama.

Wangama said the ranking demonstrates progress in strengthening health information systems.

However, he said the improvements are needed in reporting compliance, and timely submissions.

The presentation also revealed ongoing efforts to strengthen the National Health Information System including monthly reporting compliance, daily data entry, clinical reporting, and improved access to health information resources.

East Sepik PHA has applauded the leadership of chief executive officer Matthew Kaluvia, the senior executive management, board of governance, and its developing partners.

Health workers and staff across health facilities in East Sepik were also acknowledged for their collective contribution to the PHA’s performance.
