The National Capital District Commission [NCDC] has officially welcomed Motu Koita Assembly representative for Tatana, Udia Opao, to the NCDC Board of Directors.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop officiated at the swearing-in ceremony.

Governor Parkop said strong leadership is important in managing Port Moresby and addressing the challenges faced by the Motu Koita people.

He said the Motu Koita community has experienced many changes as Port Moresby continues to grow and develop quickly.

“While much of Papua New Guinea has experienced gradual change, the people of Motu Koita have witnessed the transformation of Port Moresby at a fast pace. This transition has deeply impacted their cultural heritage and way of life,” Governor Parkop said.

Governor Parkop said Mr Opao’s appointment will help ensure the Motu Koita people are properly represented on the NCDC Board.

“Mr. Udia brings with him a wealth of experience and leadership that will guide us in serving the people of Motu Koita,” he said.

Mr Opao thanked the Commission for the opportunity to serve on the board.

“It is an honour to be part of the NCDC Board, and I look forward to working with the Commission to deliver services to the people of Motu Koita,” Mr Opao said.

Mr Opao previously served as Chairman of the Motu Koitabu Council until 2009 and also contributed to the Hiri Moale Festival committee.

The NCDC Board is chaired by Governor Powes Parkop, while Motu Koita Assembly Chairman Russell Wavik serves as Deputy Chairman.

Other board members include representatives from the business community, churches, women’s groups, and the Motu Koita Assembly.
