Kokopo–Rabaul road partially cleared, motorists urged to take caution
Sections of the devastated Kokopo -Rabaul road between Raburua and Karavia villages have been partially cleared for traffic to use.
However, residents in the area have warned the travelling public to take precautionary measures as the road was reduced to only one lane with debris still scattered along the stretch of road.
Residents have also warned of soft soil formation along the edges of the road that may possibly collapse.
Youths from Raburua have voluntarily mobilised and cleared the damaged sections since yesterday.
Since Sunday, the section of the road was rendered impassible due to sediments and debris deposits washed onto the road after the weekend's torrential rain.
The Kokopo - Rabaul Road remains an important infrastructure for the province as fuel and supplies lands at the Rabaul ports first before it is moved to Kokopo and other parts of the province.
Any damage to the infrastructure will cause inconveniences to the delivery of goods and services in the province.
