Madang police boss, Superintendent Robert Baim, is urging the people of Madang Province to reflect on their personal lives during this Easter.

He said Easter is not a time for drinking beer and partying.

He said everyone must take this time to reflect on their personal lives and their families and change their mindset.

"On behalf of my policemen and women, I am urging everyone to take this Easter period seriously. Easter is a time to forgive and forget and change some of our attitudes. Go to church and change for the better." PPC Baim said.

Superintendent Baim emphasized this whilst also announcing a special police operation for the Easter long weekend.

The operation will start tomorrow until Monday next week.

Police during this time will also be conducting roadblocks, spot checks and random checks on vehicles to make sure they are roadworthy and that drivers and passengers are complying with basic traffic rules and regulations.

He further cautioned drivers not to drink and drive.

"Our operation orders are already out, and police will be out in full force to ensure a peaceful Easter. Policemen will also be going into settlements to make sure there are no illegal activities during this time and there will be no loud music.

"Those of you who are thinking of producing homebrew during this time, please be warned that the law will be tough on you." He said.

He also emphasised that all laws prohibiting the chewing of betelnut and smoking in public places remain as they are, adding that those who find themselves on the wrong side of the law will be locked up in police custody and denied bail until they appear in court after the long weekend.

However the Madang PPC is optimistic that the province will have a peaceful Easter holiday, further urging everyone to go to church and change their bad attitudes and mindset for a better Madang.
