DataCo completes communal tower survey in South Fly
The PNG DataCo engineers from Port Moresby have successfully completed their site surveys in the South Fly District of Western Province, for the installation of five new telecommunications towers in the remote communities along the border and at Oriomo Landing Port.
According to South Fly District ICT Cordinator Daborr Mapa the team visited Sewirimabu, Bula, Suwame, Wipim, and Oriomo, overcoming challenges like the bad weather condition and local issues to to have the surveys completed.
Their recent visit follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year between South Fly District Administration and PNG DataCo, and a leadup meeting in Port Moresby between DataCo and Kacific Telecommunication in the beginning of this year.
Mapa said the survey is aligned with the Western Province Integrated Development Plan 2023-2027, prioritizing connectivity and economic growth in the district.
The new towers will boost border security and economic opportunities, fulfilling the commitment made by Local MP Sekie Agisa.
Meanwhile,DataCo will now analyse the survey data and develop plans for the next phase of the project.
