Rosso support Huonville Primary after storm damage
Parents and community members of Huonville Primary School in Lae have agreed to contribute K350 per child this year to help rebuild classrooms damaged by a recent storm.
The support fee will go towards constructing classrooms for grades currently using makeshift learning spaces.
Head Teacher Dairi Baru confirmed on Tuesday that the school will resume proper classes next week.
"Despite the National Government appealing to school not to charge fees this year, such situation as Huonville Primary School could be acceptable said the school head.
"The school has agreed for a shift teaching while waiting on the temporary classrooms to be fixed.” Baru said.
Lae MP John Rosso has responded quickly to assist the school following the damage, with rebuilding works for grades 5 and 6 expected to be completed within two weeks.
MP Rosso visited the school a day after the storm to inspect the damaged classrooms.
“Lae city Authority will assist the school with a K100,000.00 for temporary classroom to sustain the schools teaching and learning to continue and then we look at building another 8 in 1 for the school”, Rosso said.
MP Rosso has previously built an 8-in-1 classroom block that is currently used by Grade 8 students. The school is also constructing its own 8-in-1 block, expected to be completed by mid-year, which will cater for Grade 7.
Head Teacher Baru also thanked business houses Theodist and BNBM for supporting the school in its rebuilding efforts.
