The Member for Wau Waria District, Marsh Narewec, travelled from the remote Waria area of his district, where he had been personally overseeing road construction, directly to Lae and onward to Bunsil Station on Siassi Island to attend the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea’s [ELCPNG] 35th Synod, hosted by the Tewai-Siassi District.

Narewec told NBC News that as the leader of Morobe’s newly established government district, he prioritised attending the synod at the earliest opportunity with three key objectives in mind.

“I attended firstly to ensure that we as a new district continue discussions and strategic planning in this new journey, particularly towards gaining ELCPNG's approval for Wau Waria to become the 18th church district,” he said.

“Secondly, the synod provided an opportunity for me as a new leader to listen to the agendas being presented and deliberated on by all 17 church districts from around the country, so I could gauge where my district stands and identify areas for improvement.

Thirdly, I attended to ensure that the large number of delegates supported by my DDA to participate as observers were safe, well cared for, and returned to Wau Waria safely,” he stated.

The MP confirmed that his District Development Authority [DDA] committed more than K220,000 to ensure its delegation’s successful participation in the synod, which concluded yesterday.

“My district ensured that more than 120 delegates from the Jaka Circuit in the ELC Huon Gulf District, the Garaina Circuit in the ELC Kote District, and the Zone One Circuit in the ELC Mumeng District, as well as myself, attended this very important church gathering, particularly as part of our new journey towards becoming the 18th district,” he said.

“On this note, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Tewai-Siassi District Member, Dr Kobby Bomareo and his people, especially the Burik Congregation of Lablab Parish in the ELC Siassi District, for hosting the Wau Waria community exceptionally well throughout the synod,” Narewec expressed.
