CS acting commissioner calls on officers to look after their well being
Acting Commissioner of Correctional Services, Bernard Nepo, has called on officers to take responsibility for their own well-being so they can better serve their communities.
He warned that rising violence across the country is placing greater pressure on frontline personnel.
Speaking at the Remembrance Day Dawn Service at the Bomana Correctional Services Training College on Saturday, Nepo said the occasion was not only about honoring fallen officers, but also about reflecting on how serving officers live and care for themselves and their families.
He told officers that today’s environment is increasingly dangerous.
"The environment that we live in today is turbulent not only in seer setting but elsewhere the violence is on the rise and the environment that to take we live in is not so much same as some years back.” Nepo said.
He stressed that personal discipline, health, and family stability were critical to effective service delivery.
“If we look after ourselves, our families, our well-being especially our health then we can be able to carry out our responsibility more effectively,” he said.
He warned against reckless lifestyles, including alcohol abuse and family violence, saying such behaviors weakens officers and the communities they are sworn to protect.
Nepo reminded officers that leadership alone could not solve these problems.
The Acting CS Commissioner said the government was closely watching the Correctional Services’ role in maintaining law and order, adding that officers must have.
He urged officers to take his message to heart as they face the challenges of 2026, reminding them that caring for themselves is essential to protecting the nation.
