Madang Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Robert Baim, has warned residents not to shelter criminals, saying anyone who does so will be treated the same as the offenders themselves.

He also issued a strong warning against homebrewing and the use of marijuana, saying police will not tolerate these activities.

Superintendent Baim said Madang enjoyed a mostly peaceful festive season and called on the public to keep that spirit going throughout 2026 by respecting and supporting one another.

“Let’s be agents of change this year. No one will change Madang but us, the residents and citizens. Our change in attitude and mindset will bring Madang back to its former glory days and attract more positive changes,” he said.

He explained that while the special Christmas and New Year police operation will end this weekend, Operation Sain Abe Unlimited will continue into the new year.

Police, he said, will take firm action against anyone breaking the law.

“We are here to protect lives and properties. Those that harbour criminals and do homebrewing, your days are numbered.

“You either contribute to the development of Madang or simply pack up and go home if you try to destroy Madang.

“Go back home and till the land. There’s money in the land. Do something this year to sustain yourselves instead of committing crime in urban areas. Make 2026 a year of change,” Superintendent Baim said.
