Police in the National Capital District and Central Province say growing support from businesses and individuals during the festive season is strengthening frontline law-and-order operations, as authorities warn the public against disorderly New Year celebrations.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police and NCD–Central Provinces Commander, Benjamin Turi, confirmed that several business houses and individuals have come forward to assist police with food supplies, shopping vouchers, cooked meals, Christmas gifts, cash and other essential items to support officers on duty.

Turi acknowledged contributions from Boroko Foodworld, China Harbour, the Eliseo Group of Companies, various Chinese business houses, as well as individuals and community groups who donated food rations for police officers during the Christmas and New Year operations.

He thanked the donors for their timely support and said such partnerships demonstrate shared ownership of law and order responsibilities.

“Police cannot do this work alone,” Commander Turi said. “When people support the police, they become part of the team working together to keep communities safe."

He also acknowledged the assistance of some Members of Parliament within the command, saying that several leaders have shown strong support for law and order initiatives throughout the year.

Turi urged other leaders and stakeholders to follow suit, saying police officers are making sacrifices to protect lives and property.

“Our officers are doing their best to protect the very people who voted for their leaders,” he said.

While welcoming the support, Commander Turi issued a firm warning ahead of New Year celebrations, calling on families and youths to celebrate responsibly.

He condemned the burning of tyres and other disorderly behaviour seen in past years, describing such actions as unacceptable and dangerous.

“I call on the people of NCD and Central Province to stop these primitive forms of celebration and welcome the New Year in a civilised and lawful manner,” Turi said.

Police festive operations remain ongoing across the command as authorities maintain heightened patrols to ensure public safety.
